Idle member emails
«
on:
March 06, 2008, 10:16:10 AM »
I sent out a series of emails to members who had been absent for over three weeks, these were just nudges reminding people that the forum was here and alerting them to the fact that the community has grown so much so quickly in the past few weeks.
I will continue to do these emails from time to time in the future.

Good. Hopefully we will get a lot of old members to come back. Fresh ideas are never a bad thing.

With the members of R&D all being creature lovers...I think the good days of out thinking your opponent in control matches are over. No more Draw-Go vs. Draw-Go battle of wits matches...(Not the card)

they're just obsessed with making old cards obsolete. Like.... why make a creature that does what an old card does, and make it cost less than the old card? I can;t think of any reason other than to desperately try and force people to buy the new sets. It's kinda pathetic. I like cards/sets/games with some longevity. And Magic just doesn't have that anymore.

All:
This does tie in with this thread, I promise!
I agree that it seems like WOTC are just coming up with cards to make us buy the newest, latest, greatest thing. There are some pluses to this:
1.) New players (or us dumb n00bs who got out) are able to get back in without having to spend c-notes, or even clevelands (1,000 if I remember correctly.) New blood keep the MTG world going, and I like nothing more than to meet a new player at FNM who is playing their first draft...brings back memories.
2.) While some cards are reprints, or modifications of reprints, there are some new cards that catch everyone by storm (look at 'goyf, do I HATE that card!) Or the faerie mainstay Bitterblossom? New cards bring new ideas, and for those of us who LOVe building crazy decks, and some serious comp. decks...what could be better than new ideas? (Which is why I do not like the new set, but I digress)
3. WOTC is a business, and if MTG does not make profit for them, well, it will go the way of Star Wars CCG (remember that slep?) I really hope MTG does not go that stagnant, but we will see.
I understand everyone's issues of creature-heavy, aggro formats that are dominating the metagame right now. The great thing about MTG is that you can make anything from almost nothing, you just have to be creative. When, as a younger n00b, I started to play, the only way you really learned about new ideas was from your friends, and who can trust them?
Control is not dead, it is just more "interesting."
Thanks for listening to my rant...and talk with you all in the forums!

I remember a time when a deck would rule a format for over a year. I'm actually thankful for the continuous change that happens every 3 months. It's hard on the bank account, but it definitely keeps things going.
I don't, however, like how WOTC has staggered real cards and virtual card sales because they sell more releasing one after the other.
Wizards has done a good job of changing the environments too and that can't be an easy feat.

All:
I play MTGO and frankly I miss the feeling of cards...plus spending double money, not good when it is hard to get money for one (the joys of being married.) Anyways, just my two pennies.
