I am assuming after reading the article that the testing was just block; however, when I first started reading it I assumed that is was standard. It was testing just for block correct?

You should consider Painter's Servant for the Wilt Leaf deck.

Not only is it a decent blocker at 1/3 for 2 mana it also colors all
your dudes to whichever color you need.
Of course I haven't seen your list, maybe you're using it already.
