We welcome a new author to our midst, the forum user esternaefil sent me this article last week and I'm happy to post it. It's an excellent overview of the main decks of Block right now and it should provide excellent insight for those preparing for their PTQs. Check back for the next in this series!

What did you guys think?

None. Faeries still win.

It's coming Lee,  don't worry. I'm working on article 3 as we speak, and that one is dedicated to Eventide's potential impact on the format.

I'm not sure when Trick will have Article 2 up (I got it to him yesterday) but taht one has a lot of analysis of three of the archetypes that you should focus on pre-eventide.

I would have jumped straight in with eventide, but like I say in the article, it's impossible to know where you are going without knowing first where you are.

But never fear about Denver, help is on the way :P

I've done a TON of testing with Faeries and it is VERY strong. It is consistent, it's dominating and can even rally to come back. I guess I'm just scared that it's so obviously good that it will just get beat down in Denver.

I've found that Puppeteer Clique is simply AMAZING

Love the faith, but give me time to finish writing it :P  I'll be able to have it to you tomorrow afternoon without any hiccups.

Lee: that's pretty much what my testing is showing.  Kithkin CAN beat it.  Assassins CAN beat it.  BUG CAN beat it.  GraveGames CAN beat it.  But none of those decks show better than a 60/40 post-board.  Thing is, someone is going to lose the odd match to good decks played by good players.  It could be you.

But I don't think I can earnestly suggest playing anything but the best deck unless you feel that you need so much edge that you can only gain any kind of advantage by being rogue.  And even then, the best 'rogue' deck coming out of the development thinktanks right now is GraveGames which is both incredibly difficult to pilot and 'not that rogue' anymore.

That's the thing about FAeries though.  It is so incredibly obviously dominant that there are bound to be players out there who have spent two months FIGURING OUT HOW TO BEAT IT.  But those players are sacrificing their other matchups (tops one can only expect to face Faeries twice every five rounds in this metagame), which leaves them out of Day two unless they get extremely fortunate.

I've found that Puppeteer Clique is simply AMAZING

This is great T3ch that has been seeing a lot of play lately. In the mirror it can be insane. Check this.

1. Play Puppeteer Clique targeting your opponents Mistbind Clique.
2. Champion your own Puppeteer Clique.
3. Swing in for 4 damage.
4. At the end of turn the Mistbind Clique is RFG. Your Puppeteer Clique comes back into play. Take whatever. Since its after the At end of turn step...you can keep the creature around until the following turn.
5. Swing all out. If your Puppeteer Clique dies...they had better hope they don't have another Mistbind Clique in their yard. If your Puppeteer Clique doesn't die...then you have a nice threat that your opponent will be afraid to kill.

All of this for on a single creature. Lets not even talk about the awesomeness that happens if your opponent has a Cloudthresher in the yard.

My opinion is that if you think you have the skill to play Faeries...you should. If you are better than your opponent than will win the mirror. Not to mention that it has the best overall rating against all of the meta. I think its an easy choice. That is unless you are wanting to make your mark on the meta...
