Quillspike
Creature - Beast
, Remove a -1/-1 counter from a creature you control: Quillspike gets +3/+3 until end of turn.

i was playing a game on mws in block where someone went infinite on my on turn 4
first turn he plays  reflecting pool
second turn he plays twilight mirer and plays devoted druid
3 turn he plays  twilight mirer loking for rite of consumption
turn four he plais quil spain

he then un taps  and goes infinit
he then taps devoted duid puting a -1-1 conter on devoted druid and then uses the mana and taps it into quilspan his devoted druid untaps and he can do this over and over agin till he has its power and towfness over 20 and plays rite of consumption and has me take 20 to the dome

it is possible at the prerelease to win turn 3.

turn 1: forest
turn 2: swamp, devoted druid
turn 3: any basic land, tap druid forest and the other land for the quilspike, untap druid and go nuts with the spike, then the last time dont use the spike, but throw in a black off the swamp for a rite of consumption.

I think that quilspike is just nuts with the entire set and shadowmoor

I am planning on building a deck with quillspike, for FNM, I'll put it up somewhere later on. The combo is quite quick, easy, and effective. Cookies for everyone!

How could that be "fragile" a 1084638193469231/1084638193469231 Quillspike and a Devoted Druid?

I think he's saying that you can kill the druid or Quill relatively easily

OK well, I guess thats true but... It works with only two cards which is very versatile, They can both be played mono-green which fits perfectly with the "Theme" of green.

Actually, it's not that easy, because you can pump the guy infinitely but will need to attack through. The card that I think might helps is the sac a creature opponent loses life to creatures power.

Rite of Consumption? Of course, then it turns into a 3 card combo. ;p

Ok.

So, let's see.

V. Faeries.

Cryptic Command the quillspike.  Negate the Rite.  Nameless Inversion the Devoted Druid with untap ability on the stack.  Block the Quillspike with Bitterblossom Tokens.

V. Kithkin.

Crib Swap.  That is all.

V. Toast.

Cryptic Command.  Firespout.  Negate.  Nameless Inversion (Solar Flare Builds).

V. Elementals.

Cryptic Command. Makeshift Mannequin/shriekmaw.  Shriekmaw.  Nameless Inversion.  Crib Swap.

---

It seems like you are looking to fight a seriously uphill battle.  sticking turn two Druid, turn three spike turn four win is asking a lot from a deck that will ultimately have virtually no library manipulation, disruption or contingency plan.  Just keeping a druid on the board looks like it's going to be virtually impossible in the current metagame, with all the decks lined up to KILL small-sized 2 drops...

there is a combo there, I just think that it is too fragile to really be competitive.

Turn 1 swamp, thoughtseize (hit creature removal/counterspells, check for more threats)
Turn 2 forest, druid
Turn 3 forest/swamp, spike (leaving swamp open), combo up and Rite of Consumption ftw?

Granted, this is an ideal situation and does not guarantee your opponent not drawing into an answer.

sure! I'm positive the deck CAN win... I just am not crazy about it.  I think my main issue is that you really have to be playing a LOT of sub-optimal cards (rite of consumption, hatchlings, quillspike) just to make a three card combo win the game.  Of course the concept that the presence of answers to a strategy invalidates that strategy is flawed... but when it is not a presence of answers but a concentration of these answers and their prevalence throughout the metagame that seems to me to make the deck a bit mroe fragile than you might be thinking.

It sounds like an awesome casual deck... throw in some more accelerators and maybe some tutoring and you might just win yourself some 1v1 duals...

Even though I think this combo/deck is a bit weak, I can tell you that turn 3 is pretty hard for even the BEST decks in the format to prepare for...

Faeries, if you go first and they turn 2 Blossom, turn 3 they lose. In a different scenario, you play druid they probably won't counter, they try to counter the quillspike and you can either precede it with a thoughtseize or use the green/red spell that counters a blue instant. and really the ONLY logical counter they'd have is Broken Ambition.

Kithkin, will not usually have anything Turn 3 to defend, unless they oblivion ring or crib swap. However, if you are on the play they can't do either.

Elementals run the turn 3 mulldrifter and don't do much to kill ONLY a druid.

Realistically, this deck can be made and become effective... ;)

Any deck suggestions? I'd love to play a deck with this combo just to the faces people make. joker
