What did you think of this? A good overview of what to expect? Like hearing some stories about the way things were?

Tell us about your first pre-release! What do you remember? How did you do?

I will be going to my first Pre-release here in PA this Saturday. I am really looking forward to it! I never went before becasue a) I just got back into the game with Lorwyn and haven't really felt I had the skill to do ok and b) I didn't want the hassle of going into Philadelphia. SO I am going to give it a go at my local shop, which has rented out a school cafeteria. I think its going to be a great time.

A quick question though, normally do stores run a draft of the pre-release set of cards or a different set? My store is running a Shadowmoor-Eventide draft and I am just wondering if thats normal. I haven't decided if I am sticking around for that yet, I may be too tired.

@GodOfRoads, I suspect that is because the stores are only given a limited number of the "Product" to try and prevent them selling it rather than using it for the prerelease. Cool Stuff has had signups for their Prerelease because they fully expect people to show up above and beyond what the product provided will handle.

@Skyblast, yes, I put this one up a little early. So sue me, I wanted the extra half hour of sleep in the mornings ;)

Thanks for getting at that so quick Trick. Thats what I figured, but I wasn't sure if maybe my store just planned poorly or if other more established stores did things differently. I was talking to the guy and I think he only has enough stuff for 72 people, but he only just got the space together so he never held sign ups. I am just going to get there earlierish and I am pretty sure I'll get in.

Thanks!

Good show guys. Just one thing.

There will be no Shards drafts at Pre Releases. WotC are not allowing them. Releases will have them but not at the Pre's.

And I heard from my Judge friend that dealers are not allowed to buy Shards Singles. I still found this one hard to believe but he says he's sure (came down from the TO). He's judging Sat and Sun in Philly.

Still, big Pre's are the best! Most fun and Philly food rocks!!  headbang

I'm going to the Sunday Pre at my LGS so I'll be getting a good bit of Play this weekend. The funny thing is, that I know several people that are going to my LGS's Midnight Pre on Friday night, then going to the Sat Big Pre in Philly and then back to the LGS on Sunday...I don't have that sorta energy anymore...

The store owner is one of those guys and I'm going to laugh my butt off when I see him on Saturday. laughing

My first Pre-release was Ravnica's. I never went to pre-releases before that.

Unless you find a huge Pre-release...isn't it going to be run by stores? If its run by stores...I can't imagine them allowing dealers to steal their business. Am I on the right track here?

PTOs still get to run events too. So at their events they can't buy Shards singles it seems.

Basically, there are going to be big Pre's just like always. Starcity even has a gigantic list of all "big" pre's in the US and Canada.

The ruling that dealers can't buy Shard singles is a ruling by WotC and I'm pretty sure the dealers are not going to be happy as they do a lot of business buying new rares for cheap and reselling later. I have to say that this might be one of those "minor decisions" that effect the secondary market for weeks and months to come.

Just another way for WOTC to attempt to control every aspect of MTG... Such a shame.
