Hey everybody
Ok so here is the deal folks. I would like to build a deck semi based on my favorite card, Augury Adept. It doesn't have to be super competitive I just want a fun deck that will win a match here and there (or place in FNM). The problem is I haven't thought of anything too great yet. Whenever I build a white deck the adept tends to show up in it and I love playing it. People usually just stare at it and remove it as soon as they can, which usually ruins my fun, but it's just one less kill spell they can use on Divinity of Pride or something like that. ANYWAY I thought it would be fun to build a deck around (or at least with) Augury Adept.

What I am I asking for then? Well I don't know where to begin. Thats actually a lie. I don't know where to go from here.

I have thought about what deck to build. A pure lifegain deck? White Weenie with lifegain? Blue Control or Blue Aggro? A standard U/W hybrid deck. Something else. So I was hoping that you guys could help me and just throw out some suggestions for cards that may work well with the Adept.

Some Guidelines. I would really like this deck to be Standard, but if you have an idea for a card that might go well that isn't standard, please feel free to still post it.
The other thing is I don't want to spend a lot of money on this deck, so relatively affordable cards please (another reason I would like it to be standard, I have mostly type 2 cards, and it will be easier for me to get what I need)

Any Help/ideas would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance!  thumb

I think that Augery Adept would be good in a Control deck. Lots of counters and removal with Augery Adept for a kill and to keep your hand full.

Thanks Champ, I think that sounds like the best way to utilize the card as well.

ok so here is a rough outline of what I would like to do that I came up with just looking through what cards I already own.

creatures
4 Augury Adept
4 Wistful Selkie (might be hard to pull off without a pure Green/Blue Mana base)
3 Mistmeadow Witch
2 Flickerwisp
2 Wandering Graybeard
3 Wizened Cenn
3 Knight of Meadowgrain
1 Windbrisk Raptor
1 Thistledown Liege

Spells
4 Steel of the Godhead
3 Broken Ambitions
2 Faerie Trickery
2 Familiar's Ruse
1 Scattering Stroke
3 Snakeform
4 Oblivion Ring
4 Prison Term

By my count thats 45 Spells, and then with the manabase (which I will figure out later/could use help on) that would bring it over 60 cards. If the numbering seems odd its just what I own of each card, I think most of these cards are affordable and I could grab some more.

I was also thinking of Mirrorweave Shenanigans but I don't know if I want to drop 25 bucks for a playset.

Let me know what you think.

Well...I see the direction that you are going with the deck...but I am forced to ask...what makes this deck any better than the Kithkin decks that are running rampant in Top 8's all over the world. I am all for innovation and new ideas...but I don't think this is any better than a deck that already exists. Prior to Figure of Destiny...Kithkin were already a pretty good deck. After Figure of Destiny it took off any remains at the Top tier. I think if you used the pre-Figure of Destiny list, you will have a lot more success.

Now if you insist on changing things around...try this shell of a deck on for size.

Maybe all these cards won't be used but...this is what I was refering to when I first posted in this thread. I left out Cryptic Command because you did...and I assume that is because you are on a budget. If you have access to them...it should be an obvious inclusion.

I will assume that this is a casual deck for the current block, otherwise, you might want to stick to the idea that Champion posed. If you are going casual/standard, let's look at a deck that follows your idea: (plus why I have what I do...)

Creatures: 19
4 Augury Adept - This offers great card advantage
4 Wistful Selkie - Selkie is easy to get out with Mystic Gate or a mid game 3 islands
4 Flickerwisp - I'm still wondering about this. It's got an ok chance to combo with the Adept. I just wish it had Flash! You could possible swap these for Kitchen Finks if you want a creature or Consign to Dream if you want more control
4 Mulldrifter - Card Advantage
3 Plumeveil - Defense, I love these vs faeries

Spells: 19
4 Broken Ambitions - Counterspell
2 Dream Fracture (one of my personal favorites)
2 Austere Command - They are not that expensive, and handle a great many situations mid to end game
4 Crib Swap - I like these better than Snakeform
4 Oblivion Ring - Control
3 Prison Term - I'm hesitant about this. You might be better off with something like Vendilion Clique or even Spell Syphon

Lands: 22
4 Mystic Gate
8 Islands
10 Plains

Expensive Cards to Consider:
Sower of Temptation - These are excellent control. I got 4 off ebay for $12. I'm sure they went up in price since I got them though.  sad
Cryptic Command - Great card, but it's expensive! Really the staple for any blue control decks; Unfortunately...

Flickerwisp is a fun card to combo with using something like Aven Riftwatcher, Mulldrifter or Kitchen Finks (or in a Black/White Deck Shriekmaw), and it can be used as removal. Plus its got flying, is pretty cheap. It would be great if it had flash, but in my current deck I have disperse as well.

Thanks for the input. I am at school now, but when I get home I'll post the deck list I have been working with. I am still tweaking but I hope to play it tonight before time Spiral goes out as I have about 4 Time Spiral cards in there.

I would love to put in Muldrifters but they can be hard-ish to come by in my parts (somebody picked over the common box last week for them and ponders) and I have not gotten around to ordering them off the internet, I have run through this deck a couple times just against myself and the problem can actually be that I have TOO much card draw, although I may be pulling out the cards I was using for card draw for some more classic and permanent removal (I was using Niveous Wisps which draws you a card, is super cheap, is instant speed and taps down a creature. So I am debating taking it out) I haven't decided yet, and I haven't been able to get to the place I normally buy cards from (I don't do FNM there as its A) a bit too far, B) they do Drafts every week which gets pricey and C) I like the place I do FNM at better. but its a comic book store so they have just ok card selection) So this deck may seem a bit hodge-podge, but I am currently trying to make do. It won't have the perfect spells in it, but I think most of them will get the job done. And if I don't feel its going to work, I'll play it safe and either go with my Treefolk deck (which is super fun and pretty decent [and another deck I just built from cards I had laying around])

Thanks guys,
-GoR
