A quick n00b question regarding Deathbringer Liege (the new w/b EVE Liege) . .
http://ww2.wizards.com/Gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=157288
[Whenever you play a white spell, you may tap target creature. / Whenever you play a black spell, you may destroy target creature if it's tapped.]

I am looking for a way to trigger twice on this card and would like to know if the instant 'Beckon Apparition' (http://ww2.wizards.com/Gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=157415) which generates a token could make this happen - OR - does one need a card to physically hit the table in order to be counted as a spell . . . ?

My apologies in advance for my dreadful lack of rules knowledge . . . don't throw things at me.  upside down happy

I'm not sure I understand the question. When you cast the spell, that counts as "playing a spell".

Playing a spell is very different than a spell resolving. You play a spell as soon as you announce it. Resolving it is irrelevant. For instance...if you play a spell and it gets countered...you still played it. For your example of Beckon Apparition...you are playing the spell which is both White and Black. Whether it resolves or not doesn't matter. At this point...both of Deathbringer Liege's abilities will go on the stack in the order that they appear on the card. So...you will tap target creature. Then you will destroy target tapped creature.

Make sense?

CopySix, playing the Beckon Apparition counts as playing a Black/White spell, even though it does not actually 'hit the table'. Whenever you cast something, weather it be a Creature or an Instant, you are playing a spell. To the best of my knowledge, the only non-spell cards are lands (please someone correct me if I'm wrong on the last [unless you're talking about an Un set card).

Thanks,
