Hi all,

Can I use Mindwrack Liege 's ability even if the card is tapped?  Also, if I use this at the end of my opponents turn, can I use the card summoned to attack when its my turn?

Lastly, for now  smiley , is there a rule of thumb to use when deciding whether to play first or draw first?  I'm only playing for fun now with friends, so it might be that it dont matter.  But from a competition point of view I guess it would.

I would appreciate any help you could offer, thanks in advance.

You can play the Liege's ability if its tapped, yes, and if you summon a creature at the end of their turn than you can attack with it on your turn.

Most people play first in standard and limited, but certain decks really benefit from the extra card (more likely in the legacy format). I think it ultimately comes down to the deck you are playing, for example, a Kithkin deck is going to want to drop a creature quick, so they may want to go first, they don't necessarily need that extra card opening turn. A Giant or Treefolk deck MIGHT need that extra card though.

In casual its not as big a deal.

Hope I helped  thumb

Hi all,
Hi.

Can I use Mindwrack Liege 's ability even if the card is tapped?
Yes. The ability doesn't require Mindwrack Liege to tap and his ability doesn't specify that Mindwrack Liege must be untapped...therefore you can use the ability even if its tapped.

Also, if I use this at the end of my opponents turn, can I use the card summoned to attack when its my turn?
Yes. Simple as that. If you begin your turn with a creature in play...it can attack...unless it says otherwise. *Super Mario bonus answer* If you use a card like Sower of Temptation to take control of a creature...unless that creature has haste...it can't attack and has summoning sickness.

Lastly, for now  smiley , is there a rule of thumb to use when deciding whether to play first or draw first?  I'm only playing for fun now with friends, so it might be that it dont matter.  But from a competition point of view I guess it would.
It has been a long time since there was actually a reason to Draw First. The only reason that I can see taking the draw would be if you were using Gemstone Caverns. Otherwise...the games have gotten so fast that I feel its a decent advantage to go first. Others may disagree with me but...Another thing to consider is what kind of deck you are playing. If you are playing an aggro deck...I can't think of a reason not to play.

I would appreciate any help you could offer, thanks in advance.

Hope this helps.

Hi GodofRoads and imachampion (great name  smiley )

Thanks for your responses.  Thats really helped to clarify things.

The reason I was asking about the  Liege was because it seems a very powerful card in the fact that not only can you cast anything for 4 mana but also you can effectively flash a creature in at any time.

The play or draw option interests me due to the split of opinions.  In the small group of people I play with the opinion is split.  To me I think drawing the extra card would give an advantage just because its an extra card, but what do I know smiley

Thank you again,

The problem is that the format is so fast...if you are playing a control deck...an aggro deck has an entire extra turn to take advantage of you starting out slower. If you are an aggro deck...Control decks are getting an extra turn to take overwhelming control of the game making it very unlikely that you will be able to win. Again...these are just my opinions so...take them for what you will.
