Does it apply to attacking only, or all "tap" abilities as well?

Attacking and any use of the "Tap" and "Untap" symbols are affected by Summoning Sickness.
Llanowar Elves
- Summoning Sickness prevents the ability because of the tap symbol.
Azorius Guildmage
- The abilities can be used because of the lack of a "Tap" symbol.
Spark Elemental
- Not affected by summoning sickness.
Shivan Dragon
- Affected by summoning sickness.
Does this make sense?

Absolutely, thanks. I knew haste would let you attack right away, I didn't it let you tap in general...

I want to note "Summoning Sickness" affects all permenants that come into play, but it ussually only affects creatures. I mention this because prior to Future Sight there were a lot of people who did not know this. When
Dryad Arbor
was introduced, a lot of people became familiar with the rule.
So if something comes into play, and then is turned into a creature, it will have summoning sickness unless an ability or effect is altering this rule.

This might be poorly worded and could cause confusion.
In regards to creatures if you want to Tap it for an activated ability with "tap" in it's cost or if you want to attack with it. Just ask yourself one question.
Did I control this at the beginning of my upkeep?
"summoning sickness" doesn't affect any other permanents. You can tap lands, non-creature artifacts, non-creature enchantments (if there are any with "tap" powers), and equipment (assuming it's the equipment with the "tap" ability and not something it gives to the equipped creature)(not sure if there are any that meet that scenario)

I think his point was that for instance if you animate a Mutavault the first turn it is in play it cannot attack that turn, it must be in play for one turn before it can attack. Anything that was a non-creature that somehow becomes a creature still has to have been in your control since the last turn in order to attack.

I totally understand what your point was. But even as a Judge I had to re-read the part that I quoted to make sense of it. It looks like Kevin was the one that used poor wording in his article.
