I have never participated in 2HG, but this week one of the stores is doing 2HG standard. What would you recommend playing in such a thing? What should I look out for?

I was thinking that I may play Doran and a friend would play faeries. It seems like the card choice would change up a bit with this format. For example, Imp's Mischief seems like much more powerful of a card in 2HG than in regular constructed since there would be more targeted cards.

So what 2 decks in standard would work well together?

Any recommended card choices that would be significantly better in 2HG to consider?

Thanks!

Control Fairies and Doran might work pretty good. You defenitly want two decks that mesh good together.

I just got back from a two-headed giant event for Standard. The team decks that won in my area were Merfolk + Green X big mana.
The merfolk flooded the board with cheap guys and then held counter magic, and the green/x  big mana played relative threats like groundbreaker and tarmogoyf.

Mirrorweave+groundbreaker=nice 6/1 trample and provides a wrath of god effect at end of turn =)

My team ended up playing Elves and U/R control fun but we only got 3rd =(

haha. It was my first 2 headed giant event so it was awesome to win. Doran/Faeries is a force to be reckoned with.

Honestly... there is really only 1 type of DHG played in constructed... and thats storm. It is the perfect deck for dhg. If both played identical storm decks, there would be no chance of winning against it. You try to counter one guys storm take off... the other picks up the pace with 2 more spells on the stack. Its simple really, you want to win DHG constructed... run storm.

I think I am currently satisfied with the Doran/Faeries team. We won our second 2HG event as well.

Storm does sound like it would be epic though.

The problem with that theory is that in the rules of 2-headed Giant, you have to have two decks which, combined, obey the 4-of rule.  You cannot have two identical decks.  Heck, you cannot even realistically run two U/R decks.  If one deck is running 4 each of the storm engine, then you cannot run any in the second deck.

This is why in terms of storm in 2hg, most teams run a storm combo deck and a mono blue sonic boom deck dedicated to protecting the storm player while it is going off.

Yeah I was thinking about the 4 of rule regarding that post recently.

With the idea of running sonic boom and storm - that is a decent idea. Me and my 2HG partner were thinking about how it would be pretty good to have a deck like sonic boom protect a Reveillark combo until it can go infinite to win.

For some reason I feel like me and my partner are the only ones who bring good decks to our 2 HG FNMs. Our decks aren't even necessarily thought out for the format, but they are still good decks in their own right which apparently is better than most around here. Everyone else just brings decks that they think would be fun, yet never win. I just run Firespout in Doran and plenty of removal to where it is almost like I am more of the control player while my Faeries partner goes more aggro until I lay down Colossus/Doran/Goyf. I have never seen so many decks be blindsided by Firespout so much. Anyway, after winning the 2 events we have played in we have almost felt bad bringing decks with so much money in them while everyone else comes with their fun decks like slivers and goblins. I would imagine that other 2HG events could be a lot more competitive, but I suppose ours just aren't as much.

This is by far my least favorite format.  Control or control with combo always wins.  Teachings and pickles, storm, permission or Ugh! Turbofog.  Mirrorweave can do some ridiculous stuff in this format, too.

Sealed 2hg is infinitely more fun.

I played a 2HG on friday night. I had my Twinsanity deck that's completely defensive, and my partner had a mono faerie control deck. We pretty much just held the board till I pulled off a Sanity Grinding + Twincast + Twincast on a few occasions. Half the time we beat down with my Overbeings of Myth and him Sowering anything worth while.

Interesting format, not what I'd like to play on a regular basis though.
